Opt for a swift cable car ride from Wasserauen to Ebenalp. From the valley station, a brief stroll leads to the renowned Berggasthaus Aescher-Wildkirchli. Explore caves en route to the breathtaking Schäfler mountain.

Proceed along the Schäfler ridgeline to the charming alpine lake. After enjoying Seealpsee, easily return to the car park. The Wasserauen-Seealpsee hike is moderately challenging.

Forgo the Ebenalp trek, offering less appealing forest views. Purchase a one-way cable car ticket, as you'll hike back. Adults pay CHF 22, children CHF 9.

The cable car runs every 15 minutes, 7:30 AM to 6 PM, from May to October.

Explore one of Central Switzerland's most fantastic hiking trails in the car-free village of Stoos. The breathtaking panorama trail along the ridge spans 4.5 km from Klingenstock to Fronalpstock, taking about 2–3 hours. Our recommended approach is via the world's steepest funicular railroad from the Schwyz cable car station to Stoos.

Adult tickets cost CHF 48, while children aged 6-15 pay CHF 20. The funicular operates every 30 minutes from 7:10 AM to 7:40 PM. If arriving by car, numerous paid parking spaces are accessible, with the first hour free and subsequent hours costing 1 CHF each.

Nestled in a valley, Lauterbrunnen boasts Switzerland's highest free-falling waterfall. Its enchanting scenery and stunning views make it a must-visit destination. Capture an iconic photo with Staubbach waterfall as a backdrop and enjoy a free tour behind Staubbach Falls.

5. Gletscherschlucht Rosenlaui

Explore the romantic Rosenlaui valley, a charming spot in Switzerland. Capture photos by the river with Rosenlaui mountain as your backdrop and stroll through the well-built Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge trail, taking around 45 minutes.

Entrance tickets are CHF 10 for adults, CHF 5 for children (6-16 years). The site is open from late May to October, from 9 AM to 6 PM. To visit Rosenlaui-Schwarzwaldalp, a parking ticket is necessary, costing CHF 8 for a day ticket and CHF 4 for an afternoon ticket (from noon). Exercise caution on the narrow, winding road into the valley.

6. Stäubifall

Discover Stäubifall, our favorite Swiss waterfall near Unterschächen in Uri. Admire wooden houses, lush fields, and charming cows surrounding the falls. If time permits, explore the area on a hike for spectacular views.

Park in Ribi; the walk to the waterfall is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. Following that, relish the breathtaking views from Klausen Pass, a renowned scenic drive across the Swiss Alps.

7. Gelmerbahn

Gelmerbahn, once Switzerland's steepest funicular (now surpassed by Stoos), originally transported building materials for Gelmer dam. With a 106% gradient, it's among Europe's steepest passenger funicular railways, offering the best experience in Meiringen.

At the top, explore the turquoise-blue Lake Gelmer or hike to Gelmerhütte. Gelmerbahn operates from early June to late October, 9 AM to 4 PM daily. Tickets: CHF 32 return, CHF 16 one-way for adults.

Adjacent to Gelmerbahn, the Handeckfallbrücke, a 70-meter-high suspension bridge, connects Gelmerbahn and Hotel Handeck—worth exploring.

The quickest route to the renowned Alpstein viewpoint is via cable car from Frümsen, costing CHF 36 for a round trip or CHF 18 one way. The Saxer Lücke is 3 km from the top of the Staubern cable car station, taking 1.5 hours to wander.

The hike is easy, with some moderately challenging rocky trails. Though steep at points, steps and rope barriers ease the journey. From Saxer Lücke, hike to Fälensee, 30 minutes away. Several routes from Fälensee lead back to Staubern cable car station, or for a longer hike, consider staying at Berggasthaus Bollenwees.
